The home for your AI-generated apps, internal tools, and HTML docs — with a backend, auth, and a path to your internal services.
BFFless gives static frontends real backend capabilities without standing up a server. Point any static site, dashboard, demo, or set of HTML docs at BFFless and get hosting, authentication, per-branch/commit previews, proxy rules to your internal APIs, traffic splitting, share links, and an AI chat endpoint — deployed as a single Docker stack and stored in Local, MinIO, S3, GCS, or Azure.README 전문 보기 ↗The home for your AI-generated apps, internal tools, and HTML docs — with a backend, auth, and a path to your internal services.

It's especially a natural home for the explosion of self-contained HTML apps and docs that AI coding agents produce: somewhere they can actually live inside a company, with a backend and access control, behind the corporate boundary.
Technical framing for those who know the category: a self-hosted Supabase/Appwrite aimed at static sites and internal apps.

The one-liner (curl -fsSL https://bffless.dev/install.sh | sh) does this automatically:
it installs OS dependencies, boots into bootstrap mode, and starts the stack for you.
Running ./setup.sh --bootstrap && ./start.sh by hand (e.g. after cloning yourself) does
the same thing. Either way, finish everything in the browser — claim token, admin account,
domain, and SSL certificate — at https://admin.<your-domain> (Cloudflare zone on SSL mode
Full) or https://<server-ip>. Design: docs/superpowers/specs/2026-07-20-web-bootstrap-setup-design.md.
Recovery from a bad apply: the final "Finish setup" step is one-way — if you typo the domain or DNS isn't pointed at the box yet, the server restarts under an identity you can't reach. Undo it over SSH and the box comes back up in bootstrap mode:
rm -rf bootstrap/instance.json bootstrap/instance.env
docker compose restart backend nginx
Day-2 operations are covered by seven scripts in the repo root. They work on any install (DigitalOcean 1-Click, manual droplet, home server) and are safe to re-run.
| Script | What it does |
|---|---|
./start.sh | Start services (profile-aware; --all, --minimal) |
./stop.sh | Stop services (--volumes also deletes data — careful) |
./restart.sh | stop.sh + start.sh; flags pass through to start.sh |
./update.sh | Upgrade to what your release channel tracks → pull images → restart. Aborts on a dirty tree. --channel stable|preview switches channel |
./logs.sh [service] | Follow logs for all services, or one (backend, nginx, ...) |
./status.sh | Versions (with restart-pending warning), services, RAM/swap/disk, domain, SSL expiry, health check |
./backup.sh | backups/bffless-backup-<ts>.tar.gz: database dump + assets + config. Contains secrets — store securely |
On small VMs (1–2 GB RAM), enable swap once so the OOM killer doesn't take out containers:
sudo ./scripts/setup-swap.sh # idempotent; no-ops on hosts with >= 4 GB RAM
| Channel | What you run | When it moves |
|---|---|---|
| stable (default) | The newest vX.Y.Z release: git tree pinned to that tag, images ghcr.io/bffless/ce-*:latest | When a release is cut (batched, roughly weekly) |
| preview | main: git tree on main, images ghcr.io/bffless/ce-*:preview | On every merge — each one is a pre-release with generated notes |
# New install on the preview channel
CHANNEL=preview sh -c "$(curl -fsSL https://bffless.dev/install.sh)"
# Switch an existing install (persisted in .env, then followed by ./update.sh)
./update.sh --channel preview
./update.sh --channel stable
Preview images are exactly what the next stable release will contain, built minutes
after each merge — useful for testing a fix before it ships. Every preview
pre-release lists the changes since the previous one and pins its image tag
(preview-YYYY-MM-DD-<sha>) if you need to reproduce a build.
