For every board it records what commercial pedal it is based on, the vendor and price with a link to buy the PCB, the build document, the controls and enclosure, and a fully parsed parts list with normalized values. Because every vendor's parts list lands in one database, the library can answer questions no vendor site can: every Rat derivative, every circuit that uses an LM308, every three-knob 125B board.
It ships as a static, offline-capable web app (PWA) that installs on macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.

A BOM typed into the post becomes an 'As posted' variant beside the file pack | Free DIY projects on a blog; no board is sold, file packs hold Eagle CAD to order your own |
| Tagboard Effects | 1,237 | Blogger post feed (blogger.py, shared with the three below): title, labels (maker, effect, Verified / Unverified, difficulty) and the links the post gives. The layout image is cached and read by Vision OCR for the board size, the cut and link counts, the knob names at the pot wires and the legend's ICs, transistors, diodes and pots (layouts.py); resistor and capacitor values are printed turned on the parts, which OCR cannot read, so each layout's full parts list was read from the drawing by eye and lives in transcribed/ (marked "source": "layout"), replacing the legend rows | Free stripboard (vero), tag strip and turret board layouts; nothing is sold, the layout is the build document |
| Dirtbox Layouts | 1,788 | As above | Free stripboard (vero) layouts, most linking the schematic they were drawn from |
| Vero P2P | ~380 | As above; only posts labelled VERO, VERO 0.15", POINT TO POINT, TAG BOARD, TAG STRIP or TURRET BOARD (the blog also posts schematics, amp work and value tables). Titles 'MAKER: Pedal, Point to Point Layout' become 'Maker Pedal'. The drawings print values on the parts with no designators, so no parts lists yet | Free stripboard, point-to-point, tag board and turret layouts of vintage and boutique fuzzes and drives (Guitar Related Ramblings) |
| Amplified Parts | 34 | The parts table in each build guide (vendors/amplifiedparts.py): values, quantities and SKUs by section, no designators, so counted ('×2 1M') with the pots named by their control; 'layout only' guides have no table and their drawings are outlined text | Free turret, eyelet (listed as turret), stripboard and terminal strip guides at amplifiedparts.com/pedal-guides; the Mod Electronics PCB guides go to that source, and the Iss. 1 guide (Amplified Parts' own Fuzz Face PCB) is skipped |
| Naegele Audio | 18 | Build report threads on the PedalPCB forum, a fixed list (vendors/pedalbuilder.py); parts read by eye from the schematic in each post (transcribed/pedalbuilder__*), which needs a forum login to view at full size. The two free boards are read from their pages on the Cryptid Effects layouts wiki, like the Cryptid source | Clones and modded circuits by Naegele Audio (PedalBuilder on the forum), who sells these PCBs and relay bypass and I/O boards by direct message: each page says so, like Aleph Null's. The Boneyard Hoof and Hybrid Fuzz Driver Deluxe are Chuck D. Bones circuits on Naegele Audio PCBs, with free gerbers hosted on the layouts wiki |
| Revolution Deux | 248 | Fred Briggs' Blogger blog, read by eye once: vendors/revolutiondeux.json lists the circuits in each post (a post can hold several), transcribed/revolutiondeux__* their parts, with the corrections the posts give for their schematics applied and kept as fixes, shown on the circuit page. The feed is read on each scrape and new posts are printed to be read | Schematics of boutique and vintage pedals (2008-2017), most traced on freestompboxes.org, often with a vero layout (attached as 'Also as'); news, articles, amps and photo-only posts are listed as skipped |
| Matt Garman (GitHub) | 3 | The placed symbols of each module's KiCad schematic (.kicad_sch), read exactly; the firmware image each module takes, from the latest mcu-bypass-firmware release; the files and caveats of each README's 'Fabrication and Assembly' section (gerbers; BOM and placement file for the SMD modules) | MattG's microcontroller bypass modules ("quasi-ICs" that plug into an effect PCB: buffers, switching, footswitch and LED) in mcu-bypass-hardware, with the companion firmware repository, his KiCad project, and the DIYStompBoxes and PedalPCB threads linked; listed under Utility |
| HotKits | 81 | The price list PDF on Google Drive (bold titles, price and availability columns) and each board's Google Drive build document: parts by type, value and count, no designators (rows named by count), with the build variants of multi-version documents (Big Muff, Fuzz Face, Datura) | PCBs for pedals and tube preamps, ordered by Facebook Messenger or email; kits and assembled boards are folded into their PCB (Omega Drive, sold only assembled, is its own entry). Full amps, the headphone amp, the amp FX loop and the HV converter are left out, as are boards whose build document is not out yet (printed on each scrape) |
| EfektPol | 7 | The layout's page on the Cryptid Effects layouts wiki: Controls and 'Component Name | Value | Note' BOM tables generated from the DIY Layout Creator file, read like the Cryptid source (vendors/efektpol.py, a fixed list) | Turret board layouts of classic drives, fuzzes and a wah, shared on the layouts wiki under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 with credit to EfektPol; the .diy file and a render of each drawing are linked; each page links EfektPol's Instagram (@efektpol) to get in touch |
| Effects Layouts (blog) | 867 | As above | Free perfboard layouts by storyboardist, each with a single-sided PCB to etch at home; not the Effects Layouts shop |
| PCBWay: Glory to Ukraine | ~337 | the CC BY-SA schematic PNG, read by eye into pcblib/transcribed/ and counted ('×4 470k'; the drawings carry no designators and the member uploads no BOM), with named knobs; OCR of the value labels where no reading exists; fetched with 10 s between requests | one member's shared projects via the member JSONP list; schematic PNGs are CC BY-SA; no prices |
| Jon Patton (OSH Park) | 5 | The Eagle board file each shared project uploads: every part's designator and value, read exactly (eagle.py); OSH Park's price for three boards | The pedal boards midwayfair shares on the OSH Park profile, five to a page; the microphone and mic preamp boards are skipped. The Hamlet Delay and Clipper Ship list as the originals their clones elsewhere name |
Every transistor a parts list names gets a substitutes section on its part page, drawn from a transistor parameter database (a MySQL dump of about 150,000 parts with material, polarity or channel, gain, voltage, current, power and frequency limits). Candidates share the material and polarity or channel, sit in the same class (a power device is never offered for a small-signal one), and are ranked by closeness of gain, voltage, power and speed. Two tiers are shown: parts other boards in the library use, then the closest by the numbers. The database has no package or pinout data, and the page says so.
cd scraper && .venv/bin/pcblib import-transistors ../transistor-dump # once; builds data/transistors.sqlite
.venv/bin/pcblib export # writes app/static/data/subs.json
The dump and the SQLite file stay out of git (transistor-dump/, data/transistors.sqlite);
the export ships only the limits of the few hundred transistors the library names.
When a build document gives one value column per version of the circuit, every column is kept and the circuit page offers a variant selector; counts and the parts cross-reference use the first column. This covers per-column tables (Effects Layouts), repeated titled blocks (Mask Audio, PedalPCB's Muffin Fuzz with its eight Big Muff versions) and OCR'd tables with a piped header (Five Cats).
Parts pages link to the manufacturer's own datasheet (scraper/pcblib/datasheets.json, checked links
only). Datasheets are the manufacturers' copyright, so the site links rather than serves them; pcblib datasheets caches a copy under data/cache/datasheets/ for your own reference. It checks candidates
on hosts that answer scripts (TI, Microchip, Vishay, Nisshinbo, Diodes) itself and lists the ones on
hosts that block scripts (onsemi, Analog Devices, Renesas, Nexperia) in to-check.json; check those in
a browser and record a good one with --add 'Q:2N3904=https://...', which also saves a copy in the
cache. A discontinued part whose maker no
longer publishes the sheet is the exception, served from app/static/datasheets/. The parts are listed
in datasheets.DISCONTINUED; each run writes data/cache/datasheets/discontinued.html, the ones still
to fetch with their Findchips links (Findchips and The Datasheet Archive sit behind a bot check, so those
are downloaded by hand; datasheet4u.com serves its archived PDFs to scripts and allows it in robots.txt). Save them named for the part and run pcblib datasheets --host <folder>:
it drops the archive's ad pages, watermarks, links and metadata and trailing pages about another part,
checks (by OCR for a scan, turned sideways if need be) that the part number is in the sheet, and records
every spelling of the part. A sheet that covers other discontinued parts (NE570/571, a germanium
catalog page) is linked for them too until they get one of their own; a file saved under two names is
served once. A part made by several fabs keeps every maker's sheet: the first is <part>.pdf and each other fab's goes beside it as <part>.<Maker>.pdf (the maker is taken from the file name, '2N4124.ON.pdf', or the sheet's text), recorded in scraper/pcblib/hosted.json with each file's maker, and the part page lists them all. A download already hosted under any name is not copied again, and NOT_HOSTED names downloads that are only a selector-table row or another part. A discontinued part made again under another number (MN3207 as Coolaudio's V3207, MN3101 as Cabintech's CT3101) links the new part's sheet and is named in NEW_PRODUCTION; an archived sheet of the original is listed after it. PAGES cuts a scanned data book where it runs on into the next part; --force hosts a
sheet whose part number OCR cannot find, after checking it by eye. A file that is only a row in a maker's selector table
or catalog goes in SELECTOR: the part page calls it a selector table, the worklist moves the part to
"Has a selector sheet, not a datasheet", and a full datasheet replaces it when one is hosted. COVERED_BY lists the other parts a hosted file covers, checked
by eye, since OCR misses rows in small catalog print.
Names, prices, part values, controls, enclosures and the original circuit are indexed as facts and every record links back to the vendor's product page and build document. Build documents and their schematic images are copyrighted by the vendors: the scraper caches them locally under data/raw/ and data/cache/ (git-ignored) for personal reference, and the public export does not include them. Aion FX explicitly permits commercial use of its projects; GuitarPCB and Fuzz Dog explicitly forbid republishing their documents. The redistributable schematic is the optional KiCad fragment you draw yourself (see below).
scraper/ Python package `pcblib`: vendor adapters, PDF parsing, SQLite, JSON export
app/ SvelteKit static PWA: search, facets, circuit pages, parts cross-reference
data/ library.sqlite plus raw/cache directories (all git-ignored)
Requires Python 3.12+, uv, poppler (brew install poppler for pdftotext), and tesseract (brew install tesseract) for the image-only parts lists of GuitarPCB and Dead End FX. On macOS the OCR passes also use Apple's Vision text recognizer, which reads thin and small type that tesseract garbles: pcblib/vision_ocr/main.swift is compiled with swiftc (Xcode command-line tools) into data/cache/_bin on first use. Without it tesseract works alone.
cd scraper
uv sync # or: uv venv .venv && uv pip install -e .
.venv/bin/pcblib vendors # every vendor id (about 64)
.venv/bin/pcblib scrape pedalpcb # one vendor at a time
.venv/bin/pcblib stats
.venv/bin/pcblib audit # flags parts rows that look invalid; report in data/cache/audit/, compared with the last run
.venv/bin/pcblib export # writes app/static/data/*.json
.venv/bin/pcblib export --images # also bundles cached schematic renders (local use only)
.venv/bin/pcblib datasheets # after export: find manufacturer datasheet links for new parts (see below)
scripts/refresh.sh re-fetches every vendor's pages (scrape --refresh-pages: prices, stock and
new boards; cached build documents are kept), runs stats, rebuilds the Claude graph (below), runs audit, and deploys only when the
audit found no new problems on boards that were already there. A board a vendor stops listing is
kept and shown as no longer listed, with the date. scripts/install-refresh.sh installs it as a
launchd agent that runs Sundays at 04:00 (or at the next wake); logs go to data/cache/refresh/.
Remove it with launchctl bootout gui/$(id -u)/com.cryptideffects.akashic-refresh.
export also fetches USD exchange rates for EUR, GBP and CAD from the European Central Bank feed (frankfurter.dev) into rates.json, so the app can show every vendor's price in one currency; the app defaults to USD and offers EUR, GBP, or the vendor's own listing.
Every HTTP response and PDF is cached, so re-running a scrape after a parser change costs no network. Use --only <substring> (matched against each product's URL or handle) and --limit N to test on a few products, --refresh-pages to re-fetch the vendor's pages but keep cached documents, and --refresh to bypass the cache entirely. --reset also drops boards the vendor still lists that a full, error-free run did not store, such as products the adapter now skips; delisted boards are never dropped. Requests to each host are spaced 1.5 s apart.
Running several vendors' scrapes in parallel is fine: the database is in WAL mode and each circuit commits on its own.
Every circuit has a slot for a hand-drawn KiCad fragment. Attach one and it becomes the circuit page's schematic, rendered with kicad-cli, with the .kicad_sch offered for download:
.venv/bin/pcblib attach-kicad pedalpcb:pcb038 ~/kicad/muroidea.kicad_sch
.venv/bin/pcblib export
Requires Node 22+.
cd app
npm install
npm run dev # development server
npm run build # static site in app/build (prerenders every circuit and part page)
npm run preview # serve the build locally
scripts/graphify_export.py turns the library into a graphify
graph (boards, vendors, the originals they're based on, and their ICs, transistors and
diodes) at graphify-out/graph.json, which .mcp.json serves to Claude Code as the
akashic-graph MCP server. Run it with graphify's interpreter after a scrape:
~/.local/share/uv/tools/graphifyy/bin/python scripts/graphify_export.py
The weekly scripts/refresh.sh rebuilds it too, whether or not the audit lets the site deploy.
The build is static, so any static host works. A Cloudflare setup is included (Workers static assets, which is what Cloudflare Pages became):
cd app
npx wrangler login # once; opens the browser
npm run deploy # export data, build, publish
npm run deploy runs scripts/deploy.sh, which exports the data bundle (never with --images), builds the site, and runs wrangler deploy with the config in app/wrangler.toml. The Worker is named akashic and serves the custom domain akashic.cryptideffects.com, set in wrangler.toml (workers_dev is off). static/_headers sets long cache lifetimes for the hashed assets and fonts and a short one for the data bundle.
Deploy app/build to any other static host the same way.
infra/cryptid-fx-redirect/ is a two-line Worker that sends the typo domain cryptid-fx.com to www.cryptideffects.com; deploy it from that directory with npx wrangler deploy. The search index is built in the browser from data/index.json; circuit pages load their own JSON on demand and are cached by the service worker for offline use.
circuits holds one row per vendor board. bom holds one row per parts-list line with category (R, C, D, Q, IC, POT, TRIM, SW, LED, OPTO, CONN, HW) and norm_value, so 1K5, 1.5k and 1k5 all become 1.5k, and A100K, 100KA and 100k log all become A100k. Categories are mapped to one shared taxonomy in scraper/pcblib/taxonomy.py.
Vendor suggestions, wrong-parse reports and fixes are welcome; see CONTRIBUTING.md. Security problems go through private reporting.
PolyForm Shield 1.0.0: free to use, copy, modify and share, but not to build a competing product. The vendors' documents remain theirs; see the source table above.
