Your agents ask. You decide.
When you run several coding agents at once (Claude Code, Codex, Grok, Gemini,
Antigravity), their questions scroll past in terminals you are not watching.
decyde gives them one place to ask: a local inbox you keep open in a browser
tab or a terminal pane. You answer there, and the answer goes back to the agent
that asked.
Requires Python 3.11+ (standard library only, nothing else to install) on
macOS or Linux. Run the same command again to upgrade.

decyde setup (run by the installer) is safe to re-run and fully reversed by
decyde uninstall:
~/.decyde.<!-- decyde:begin --> markers: ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md, ~/.codex/AGENTS.md,
~/.grok/AGENTS.md, ~/.gemini/GEMINI.md.~/.claude/settings.json, backed up first), Codex
(~/.codex/hooks.json) and Grok (~/.grok/hooks/decyde.json), plus a /decyde
command for Claude Code.~/.config/herdr/config.toml (between # >>> decyde markers) so agents
waiting on you are marked there. If you already customise the sidebar rows,
setup leaves them alone and prints the one token to add.Skip any part with --no-service, --no-agents, --no-hooks or --no-herdr.
decyde is off by default in every agent session, so short hands-on sessions stay as
they are. Turn it on for a session by telling the agent "use decyde" (or
decyde on; Claude Code also has /decyde on), and off with "decyde off". While it
is on, every ask for you goes to decyde: decisions, confirmations the agent will not
proceed without (merges, deletes, deploys, sending, spending), steps only you can take
(logins, keys, dashboards), and any "your call" or "want me to...?" hand-off at the end
of a turn. Tool-permission prompts are left to the agent's own approval flow.
Claude Code, Codex and Grok also get a safety net: if a session with decyde on ends its turn on something that reads like an ask without posting it, a Stop hook sends the agent back once to post it. Codex asks you to approve new hooks the first time it sees them.
decyde open). Live updates, a chime
and a desktop notification when a question arrives.decyde. Mouse and keyboard; scroll through questions, click an
option to answer with it, skip the ones you are not ready for. Drag across any
text to copy it (decyde does its own selection, since mouse mode takes over the
terminal's).Connect your own Telegram bot and questions reach your phone as messages, with a button
for each option. Tap one, or reply to the message with your own answer; it is delivered
to the agent like any other answer. If you answer on your computer instead, the Telegram
message updates to match. /open lists what is waiting.
decyde telegram setup # paste a token from @BotFather, then press Start in your bot
decyde telegram off
Create a new bot for decyde rather than reusing one another app polls. Setup gives the bot decyde's photo and description if it has none yet; anything you set yourself in @BotFather is left alone. Only the Telegram account that pressed Start can answer; anything from anyone else is ignored. Nothing on your machine listens for connections, but with Telegram on, the text of your questions and answers passes through Telegram's servers.
While an agent has an open question, its row in Herdr's sidebar shows it in
purple (? #12 Keep webhooks in Edge?) and its Space shows a count
(? 2 waiting on you). Marks clear as soon as you answer, and expire on their
own if the decyde server stops.
Every agent can poll with decyde check <id> or decyde wait <id>. On top of
that, decyde pushes the answer to an agent that has gone quiet:
| Where the agent runs | Delivery |
|---|---|
| Herdr pane | Typed in as a prompt once the agent is idle |
| tmux pane | Pasted in once the pane is still and no approval dialog is showing |
| Claude Code, any terminal | Sent to the session's own inbox: an idle session wakes, a busy one reads it at its next step |
| Codex, any terminal | Started as a turn in the asking thread through Codex's app-server (or added to the running turn) |
| Grok, any terminal | The agent's background decyde wait returns with the answer, which wakes it |
| Anything else | Polling |
Pushed answers start with [decyde] and tell the agent to run decyde ack <id>.
Both UIs show whether each answer was delivered and acknowledged.
decyde ask --agent codex --name "Codex, billing lane" --task "Stripe webhook refactor" \
--title "Keep webhooks in Edge Functions?" \
--question "Move the Stripe webhooks to a Next.js route or keep them in Supabase Edge Functions?" \
--context "Both work today. The route would add a cold start; Edge Functions already have the secrets." \
--why "Payments stop if webhooks break, and the refactor can't continue until this is settled." \
--option "Keep in Edge Functions" --option "Move to Next.js route" \
--recommend "Keep: no cold-start difference and one less migration" --urgency high
decyde check 12 # exit 0 answered, 2 still open, 3 dismissed
decyde wait 12 # block until answered (default 10 min)
decyde ack 12 # confirm receipt
decyde cancel 12 # withdraw
The project, git branch, and Herdr or tmux pane are recorded automatically.
The full protocol agents follow is in decyde/protocol.py.

decyde | Terminal UI (--no-splash skips the intro) |
decyde open | Web UI in your browser |
decyde status | What is installed and running, and whether an update is out |

decyde setup / decyde uninstall [--purge] | Install or remove |
Once a day the server reads the latest release of this repo on GitHub so the UIs can
tell you about updates. Nothing else is sent; turn it off with
decyde config update_check off.
Environment: DECYDE_HOME (default ~/.decyde), DECYDE_PORT (default 7717).
Changes are listed in CHANGELOG.md and published as
GitHub releases. The installer and
decyde update install the latest release, not the tip of main. To cut one: bump
__version__ in decyde/__init__.py, add the changelog section, push, then run
scripts/release.sh X.Y.Z.
