How it works
- minulo opens each network's official website inside the app and hides the parts you choose (Reels tab, Explore, Shorts shelf and tab, For You, suggested posts).
- With Screen Time, minulo can lock the official Instagram, YouTube or TikTok app. Tapping the usual icon then shows a block screen whose "Open in minulo" button leads to minulo's version without Reels or Shorts, so you don't fall back into the feed out of habit and you don't have to delete the official apps.
- You log in on each network's own login page. minulo does not receive or store your password.
Common questions
Can I use Instagram only for DMs and group chats?
Yes. Turn on "Every tab but DMs" for Instagram (TikTok has the same setting). Only DMs and the notifications tab stay; Reels, Explore, the home feed and suggested posts are hidden.
Can any app remove Reels inside the official Instagram app on iPhone?
No app can change what another app shows on iPhone, and Instagram has no setting that removes the Reels tab for adult accounts. minulo's approach is to hide Reels in its own view and use Screen Time so the official Instagram icon leads to that view through a block screen.
Can I hide only YouTube Shorts and still watch normal videos?
Yes. In minulo the Shorts shelf and the Shorts tab are hidden; search, subscriptions and regular videos keep working.
How is it different from Safari extensions and whole-app blockers like Opal or one sec?
Safari extensions only work while you use instagram.com or youtube.com in Safari. Whole-app blockers block the entire app, DMs included. minulo removes only the endless feeds, covers about 10 networks in one app, and keeps messaging.
Is it free?
Hiding Reels, Shorts, TikTok For You and suggested posts is free, and so is locking the official apps with Screen Time (up to 2 hours per block; start another any time). minulo Pro ($9.99/month or $39.99/year in the US) adds schedules, longer blocks, a lock that is harder to switch off, and multiple block lists. For students who need Instagram for group chats
Most people who use minulo are 24 or younger, and the most common reason is the same: the class group chat, the club chat or friends are on Instagram, so deleting it isn't an option. The usual pattern is opening Instagram to answer one message and still being in Reels 30 minutes later.
A setup that works for that:
- Turn on "Every tab but DMs" for Instagram in minulo. Only your DMs and the notifications tab stay.
- Lock the official Instagram app with Screen Time from minulo's Block tab. When you tap the Instagram icon out of habit, the block screen's "Open in minulo" button takes you to the DMs-only view.
- Do the same for YouTube (Shorts hidden, normal videos still work) and TikTok (For You hidden, DMs kept) if they are part of the problem.
Which app should I pick?
Several iPhone apps hide Reels while keeping DMs. They overlap a lot, so the choice mostly comes down to details:
- SocialLite: by far the most App Store ratings of the group, and push notifications for Instagram and Snapchat.
- UNDOOMED: a simple Messages Only mode for Instagram.
- ScrollGuard: a Safari extension, so it works while you use instagram.com in Safari.
- Nope: a completely free Safari extension for instagram.com and youtube.com, if you only use Safari.
- minulo: free hiding on 10 networks including TikTok and Threads, a DMs-only mode for Instagram and TikTok, and free Screen Time locking of the official apps so the usual icon leads to the version without Reels. A Reel a friend sends you opens for a few minutes, but you can't scroll on to the next one. minulo has no push notifications.

Limitations
- iPhone app, plus a Mac version for Safari and Chrome. There is no Android version yet (waitlist).
- While the official app is locked with Screen Time, its push notifications don't arrive. You read and answer messages inside minulo.
- minulo uses each network's website, so features the website lacks (posting Stories, voice messages, calls) aren't available. You can open the official app for a few minutes with "Take a break" when you need them.
- minulo came out in September 2026 and has fewer ratings than older apps.
