Status: stable (2.2.0). "My prompts" (add / edit / delete / import-export JSON) has existed since 2.0.0 under the name "My templates"; 2.1.0 renames it, adds a visible "＋ Add your own prompt" button and a simple import format; 2.2.0 adds optional categories with a filter.

Offline: yes. All prompts and texts are inside index.html; the page makes no network requests (CSP connect-src 'none'). The service worker (HTTPS only) just caches the file.

What it is

PromptVault is a library of prompts for artificial intelligence tools, organised by category (writing, marketing, video and audio, design, programming, etc.). According to the app's "About" page, it contains over 500 prompts in 62 categories. Everything is a single index.html file, with no account and no payment; the prompt is copied with one click and pasted into your preferred AI tool.

Features

• Search through prompts, with the Ctrl+K shortcut (or Cmd+K) to move the cursor into the search field.
• Navigation by categories and subcategories, in a side panel (on narrow screens it opens with the ☰ button).
• Sorting: "Default", "A→Z", "Z→A".
• [PLACEHOLDER] filling in the prompt window: all 502 prompts contain slots such as [TOPIC]; the "Fill in the blanks" panel generates a field for each one, the preview updates live, and "Copy prompt" copies the filled-in text (the values are not saved anywhere).
• Answer in the interface language (languages ≠ English): an option in the prompt window that appends the sentence "Please write your answer in ." at the end; the prompt itself stays in English. The new texts are translated into the 16 languages.
• Copy prompt button in the detail window of each prompt, plus a Copy button on the card.
• Light / dark theme (☀️ Light / 🌙 Dark button); on first run it follows the system preference.
• 16 interface languages: English, Romanian, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Turkish, Hungarian.
• Side panel resizable by dragging or with the left/right arrow keys, Home and End when the handle has focus.
• Favourites: the ☆ button on the card or "☆ Save to favourites" in the prompt window marks a prompt; the "★ Favourites" item in the side panel (with a counter) lists them. The list is kept only in this browser (promptvault.fav), in 16 languages.
• My templates (2.0): templates with {{name}} / {{name|default}} variables, created from scratch or from any library prompt ("Save as template"). Every save is a version with a note; history supports line diff against the editor and restore. Local A/B test: pick two versions, see both filled with the same values plus the diff, and record which worked better in your AI tool (nothing is sent). JSON export/import (promptvault.tpl; new UI strings are in English and Romanian, other languages fall back to English).
• Information windows: Privacy, Terms, Storage, About; a Reset button to clear saved preferences (and favourites, after confirmation).
• Tries to register as a PWA (manifest and service worker generated from code, only over secure connections / HTTPS).

User guide

1. Open the page (or the index.html file locally).
2. Choose the language from the "Language" list in the sidebar.
3. Choose a category from the sidebar or press Ctrl+K and type a keyword in the search field.
4. Optionally, change the order with the "Sort" list.
5. Click a card to open the full prompt; press Copy prompt to copy it to the clipboard. If the browser blocks copying, the app asks you to select and copy manually.
6. Close the window with Close, with ✕ or with Esc.
7. To clear saved settings (theme, panel width, language, favourites), press Reset in the footer.

My own prompts (add, edit, delete, import / export)

The sidebar has "My prompts & templates" (counter) and a "＋ Add your own prompt" button (the feature existed since 2.0.0 as "My templates"; the texts of this section exist in English and Romanian, other languages show English).

• Add: the button opens an editor with a name and a text. Variables are optional: {{name}} or {{name|default}} create fields and a live preview; a prompt without variables works as a plain prompt. Any library prompt can also be copied with "Save as template".
• Edit: "Save version" stores a new version with an optional note; version history with line diff, restore, delete of a version, and a local A/B comparison between two versions. The name is saved as you type.
• Delete: "Delete template" (with confirmation) removes the prompt with all its versions and tests.
• Export: "Export my prompts (JSON)" saves promptvault-templates.json: {"app":"promptvault","kind":"templates","v":1,"items":[{"id","name","vals","versions":[{"n","ts","text","note"}],"tests":[…]}]}.
• Import: "Import prompts (JSON)" accepts (1) that file (the prompts are added as copies, as before) or (2) a simple hand-written format: [{"name":"Summary","text":"Summarise in 3 points: {{text}}"}] or {"prompts":[…]}; the keys title / prompt are accepted as aliases, note is optional. In the simple format, items with the same name and text as an existing prompt are skipped (re-importing the same file does not duplicate). Limit: 200 prompts, 20,000 characters each, files up to 5 MB.
• Everything stays in localStorage (promptvault.tpl), nothing is sent anywhere. There are no API keys in PromptVault, so the password encryption added to the AI apps is not needed here.
• Tests: node tests/own-prompts.test.mjs (add, edit, delete, export, both import formats, invalid files, persistence, 360 px) and node tests/templates.test.mjs.

Categories (since 2.2.0, optional): every prompt can have a category (a short free-text label, up to 40 characters; suggestions come from the categories you already use). When at least one category exists, a filter appears above the list of prompts. The export format keeps the category (cat field); the simple import format accepts category or cat. Older prompts without a category keep working. Texts exist in English and Romanian (other languages show English). Test: node tests/categories.test.mjs.

Privacy and network

• Local storage (localStorage): four keys, promptvault.theme (theme), promptvault.sw (side panel width), promptvault.lang (language) and promptvault.fav (list of favourite titles). No cookies are used. Data does not leave the device.
• Network: the app's code contains no requests to third-party servers, nor scripts, fonts or images loaded from outside. The links in the app (Buy Me a Coffee, alexio.tf, GitHub) open only if you click them.
• The locally generated service worker intercepts GET requests to the same origin and caches them for later reuse; it does not contact other hosts.
• The app contains no analytics or telemetry.

Limitations and disclaimer

The prompts are templates, not advice. The categories health, mental health, medicine, law, accounting/taxation, investing/trading and insurance are strictly informational and do not replace a specialist; AI-generated results must be verified. A note to this effect is shown in the sidebar footer (in English).

Local / offline use

Download index.html and open it in a browser. All prompts, texts and languages are in the file, so it works without internet. The PWA/service worker feature requires serving over HTTPS (it does not work when opened as a local file); external links require internet.

The "About" and "Terms" texts in the interface (all 16 languages) now indicate the same licence, MIT.

Audit

Audit: 2026-10-10 — the network/storage claims in the README match the code (the only fetch is in the locally generated service worker, for the same origin; CSP connect-src 'none'). The licence on the page was unified across all languages (2026-10-11; currently MIT); the footer disclaimer note is now translated into the 15 languages.

• Favourites (☆/★ on the card and in the prompt window, "★ Favourites" item with a counter in the side panel, persistence in localStorage under promptvault.fav, 15 languages); the app's "Storage" policy now also lists promptvault.fav (instead of "three preferences").
• Fixed: the app's global aside style was also applied to the donation pill (#tf-donate), causing the white rectangle in the corner of the screenshot and the clipped ✕ button; on mobile the pill could be pushed off screen. The pill rule now resets the inherited properties.
