Sanathani

A Hindu Thithi calendar and family remembrance assistant. It remembers birthdays, anniversaries and Shraddha dates by the lunar calendar, calculates each year's date from astronomy, and reminds you.

What works in v0.1

• Panchangam engine (src/engine): thithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana with exact start/end times, sunrise/sunset, Rahu/Yama/Gulika, Abhijit, Amanta months with Adhika/Kshaya detection, Samvatsara. Sun/Moon positions from astronomy-engine; Lahiri ayanamsa; Drik method.
• Annual recurrence (recurrence.ts): resolves the original event to a lunar date (asks when ambiguous), finds the thithi in each future year's matching month, and picks the civil day with the traditional rule (sunrise / aparahna for Shraddha / madhyahna / pradosha / nishita / moonrise), including kshaya thithis and Adhika-year policy.
• Festivals & vratas by rule (Ugadi, Rama Navami, Vinayaka Chavithi, Dasara, Deepavali, Shivaratri, Sankranti, Bathukamma for Telangana, Ekadashi, Pradosham, Sankashti…).
• Reminders: multiple per event, DST-safe, deduplicated; delivered while the app is open (late delivery flagged); .ics export with alarms for reliable phone-calendar reminders.
• Ask the Panchangam: offline rule-based assistant over the engine and your events.
• Horoscope / Jathakam (jyotish.ts, horoscope.ts): sidereal birth chart (Lagna, 9 grahas, nakshatra pada, Rasi + Navamsa in South Indian style), Vimshottari dasha/antardasha, daily reading from Chandra bala + Tara bala, 30-day favourable days and Chandrashtama windows, Jupiter/Saturn/Rahu/Ketu transits with Sade Sati. Kundali matching (matching.ts): Ashtakoota 36-point Guna Milan with Bhakoot/Nadi/Gana parihara rules and Kuja dosha. Phrased as encouragement or gentle cautions only. Transit dates checked against published 2025 dates.
• Poojas & stotrams (data/poojas.ts, #pooja): Ganapathi, Lakshmi (incl. Varalakshmi Vratam), Ugadi, Ayyappa (Mandala season from Vrischika Sankranti), Lalitha and Vishnu Sahasranama parayanam, Satyanarayana Vratham, Hanuman pooja (Hanuman Jayanti by region), Vehicle pooja (Ayudha Pooja / muhurtam finder), Shiva, Durga (Navaratri), Saraswati (Moola nakshatra), Subrahmanya, Rama, Krishna, Surya, Shani/Navagraha (Shani Trayodashi), Narasimha, Dattatreya and Kubera — 20 poojas, each in a Short (5–10 min) and a Detailed (full vidhanam) style, with deity artwork (cropped into assets/deity-grid) — steps, samagri checklist, naivedyam, next dates for your location. Full texts of Vishnu Sahasranamam (with meanings of all 1000 names), Lalitha Sahasranamam, Hanuman Chalisa, Ganesha Pancharatnam, Mahalakshmi Ashtakam, Harivarasanam and Mantra Pushpam from Telugu Wikisource (CC BY-SA), built and verified by scripts/build-stotras.mjs.
• Accounts & cloud sync (src/sync): Supabase email-code and Google sign-in; per-user backup with Row Level Security and item-level merge across devices. Off until configured — see docs/supabase-setup.md.
• Jathaka card (profileCard.ts, JathakaCard.tsx): a wallet-sized card per person — Raasi, Nakshatram + pada, Lagnam, nama aksharalu, Gana/Nadi/Yoni, star deity, and traditional lucky day / numbers / colour — saved as a PNG or shared via the phone share sheet. (Signed Apple/Google Wallet passes need the backend stage.)
• Life themes by dasha (lifeThemes.ts): current period's areas of life in focus, a birth-to-100 dasha timeline, and a life-area finder (marriage, children, career, home, education, wealth, abroad, spiritual) that lists the periods tradition links to each area with the reasons (house occupied/ruled, significator). Phrased as traditional associations, never predictions.
• Muhurtam finder (muhurtamFinder.ts, #muhurtam): weddings, engagement, Gruha Pravesham, Namakaranam, Annaprasana, Aksharabhyasam, Upanayanam, property, vehicle, business, travel. Screens thithi/nakshatra/yoga/karana, weekday and masam rules, Guru/Shukra moudhyami; removes Rahu, Yama, Gulika, Durmuhurtam and Varjyam; night muhurtams for weddings; optional personal Tarabala/Chandrabala for chosen family members; .ics export.
• Places: 370 built-in places that work offline (all Telangana and AP district headquarters, major towns in every Indian state, Indian-diaspora cities worldwide), generated by scripts/build-places.mjs from GeoNames. Type-ahead search also finds any town or village worldwide online, with district and state.
• PWA UI: Home, Calendar (Gregorian / lunar), Family Events, Ask, Settings; onboarding; Telugu + English; dark mode; large text; backup/restore; delete all data.

Accuracy

Dates are calculated, not copied from a published almanac. Tests check them against well-known 2025–2027 festival dates. For ceremonies, confirm with your local Panchangam or family priest.
