✨ What it does
- Full page: scrolls down the page for you, takes a shot of each screenful and joins them into one picture.
- Visible part: just what is in the window now.
- Pick an area: drag a box over the part you want. Hold the pointer near the top or bottom edge to scroll while you drag. Press Esc to cancel.
- PNG, JPG or PDF, or Copy to put the picture on the clipboard. PDFs can be split over A4 pages or made as one tall page.
- Sticky and fixed headers show once, at the top, instead of on every screenful. Cookie bars and chat buttons that stick to the bottom show once, at the bottom.
- Pictures that load as you scroll are loaded first, so they are in the screenshot.
- Web apps that scroll inside a box (mail, chat and dashboards) are spotted, and the box is captured top to bottom.
- Sharp on high-density screens: the picture is made at your screen's real pixel size.
- Very long pages are split into several files when they are too tall for one picture, and it tells you so.
- Puts the page back where you were when it has finished.
- File names use the page title and the date and time. You can change the pattern.
🚫 What it won't do
- Browsers do not let extensions capture their own pages (settings, the extension stores, the new tab page).
- It captures the width of the window, not pages that scroll sideways.
- Keep the tab open and in front while a full page capture runs. If you switch tabs it stops and tells you.
- Pages that keep loading more as you scroll forever are stopped at 150,000 pixels.

- Unzip the download somewhere you'll keep it.
- Open
chrome://extensions (or edge://extensions).
- Turn on Developer mode.
- Click Load unpacked and pick the
screenshot-saver folder.
Firefox
- Open
about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox.
- Click Load Temporary Add-on and pick
ScreenshotSaver-firefox.zip.
Firefox removes temporary add-ons when it closes.
Build it yourself
The code in this repo is the Chromium version. manifest.firefox.json is the Firefox manifest. Run ./build.sh to make every package in dist/.
🧭 How to use
- Open the page and click the Screenshot Saver button in the toolbar.
- Pick PNG, JPG, PDF or Copy under "Save as".
- Click Full page, Visible part or Pick an area.
- The file goes to your Downloads folder. Open More options to change the file name pattern, the JPG quality, or to be asked where to save.
⚙️ How it works
page.js is only added to the page when you click a button. It finds what scrolls (the page or a big box inside it), turns sticky headers into normal ones for the capture, hides fixed bars between shots and puts everything back afterwards.background.js scrolls one screenful at a time and takes a shot with the browser's own captureVisibleTab, no faster than twice a second (Chrome's limit). Each shot overlaps the last by a few rows; if the overlap does not match, the page had not finished drawing, so the shot is taken again.stitch.js joins the shots on a canvas and writes the PNG, JPG or PDF. The PDF writer is a small one written for this extension, so no outside library is used. In Chrome and Edge this runs in a hidden offscreen page; in Firefox it runs in the background page.
🔒 Privacy
Screenshot Saver has no account, no analytics and sends nothing anywhere. It only looks at a page when you click one of its buttons, and the pictures are made on your own computer. Your settings (format and file name pattern) are stored on your computer.
