PointCast is a real website. The homepage is a living feed of Blocks;
every sub-route is a room. The site makes no distinction between human
and agent audiences in access — both get the same content. It does
distinguish in presentation: AI crawlers trigger stripped HTML mode at
the edge (functions/_middleware.ts), humans get the full styled page.
Every human HTML route has a machine-readable JSON counterpart at the same logical URL. Agents don't scrape — they read the endpoints.

IDs are assigned monotonically at authoring time. A retired Block 404s
rather than being renumbered — the ID is permanent. Every Block is

Send a User-Agent starting with ai: or matching GPTBot, ClaudeBot,
PerplexityBot, OAI-SearchBot, Atlas, Google-Extended, or
Meta-ExternalAgent, and the Cloudflare Pages middleware returns
stripped HTML: no stylesheets, no JS (JSON-LD preserved), no
preload/preconnect/icon/manifest. Response header:
X-Agent-Mode: stripped · ai:<vendor>. Typical payload savings: ~12%.

npm install
npm run dev # Astro dev server at http://localhost:4321
npm run build # Static build + OG card generation
The build script runs scripts/generate-og-images.mjs first (sharp
rasterizes SVG → PNG per Block and per first-class page) then
astro build.
Adding a Block: drop a new file in src/content/blocks/ named
NNNN.json (next monotonic ID), fill the schema, run npm run build.
The sitemap, per-channel feeds, archive, and OG card regenerate
automatically.
pointcast.xyz is Cloudflare Pages with no Git hookup: a push to main does
not deploy by itself. Deploy with:
scripts/deploy.sh
It builds the tip of origin/main in the shared ~/pc-deploy worktree,
queues behind any other deploy, gates on a complete build, and skips if that
sha is already live. Details in docs/OPERATIONS.md.
npm run publish:live -- "feat(scope): describe the ship" fetches
origin/main, refuses if the current HEAD is behind, builds, commits local
changes, pushes HEAD:main, then runs scripts/deploy.sh.
The town inspector (scripts/town-inspector.mjs) walks every door
/agents.json advertises and re-checks the manifest's claims. Its report
is a committed file, src/data/town-inspector-report.json, served at
/health and /health.json. Nothing regenerates it at deploy — a dirty
tree at deploy time is not a commit — so the deployer runs it against
production once the deploy is live and files the report in the next PR:
npm run inspect:town -- --write # walks https://pointcast.xyz, writes the report
git add src/data/town-inspector-report.json
git commit -m "chore(inspector): walk $(date -u +%Y-%m-%d)"
npm run inspect:town:preview -- https://<hash>.pointcast.pages.dev walks
a Pages preview instead (add --write to keep that report; usually you
don't). Both surfaces compute the report's age from the build date and
mark a walk older than 14 days stale, so a skipped walk shows on the
page instead of hiding behind an old CLEAN.
