Your Claude Code overhead, right overhead.
Context, each turn's growth, quota and cache warmth in one band above the prompt,
and the detail behind them in one /ccoverhead pane.查看完整 README ↗While you work in Claude Code, a few numbers decide what you should do next: how full the context window
is (time to /compact?), how fast it is filling, how much of your 5-hour and weekly quota is left, and
whether the prompt cache is still warm. ccOverhead is a Claude Code mod (a plugin of function
hooks) that keeps all of them in one band right above the prompt, colored on a single scale from safe to warning,
with native cost and running-agent indicators alongside. The pane adds session and agent IDs, short
task descriptions, models, requested effort and observed token usage without model requests.
used/window tokens. Before the first response
of a session (or after /clear or compaction) it shows Claude Code's own /context estimate, marked
~, instead of a blank. The window follows Claude Code's effective setting: /autocompact 400k
makes 320k/400k read as 80%, with the same colors as 80% of a default window.
See a 400k window.↑ figure. Context readings also refresh between requests within a turn. Each bar is colored by its share of the window, so a heavy turn stands out.cost ≈$1.84 (+$0.12) shows the session's API-price reference and latest turn
increment from Claude Code. Gold total, secondary increment, hidden when unavailable; no price table.
On subscriptions this is a usage reference, not an extra bill.agent shows one spinner per running agent, up to three with +N for the rest; hidden at zero. Open a subagent's transcript and the band follows that agent's context and growth./ccoverhead pane. What is in the window by category (which MCP server costs what), growth since
the last compaction and each compaction, the cache's hit rate, every quota window with a
window-average exhaustion estimate (when useful), and the eight most recently observed subagents:
short task description, full agent ID, model, requested effort when reported, input/output tokens and
cache reads. Counts cover observed requests; input includes cache. It also works in VS Code and the
mobile app, where the band is not drawn.auto uses the dark palette.spend on a Claude gateway that reports a spend
limit; other API-key sessions show context, cache and native cost when available.Choose either source; enable only one copy of ccOverhead.

The band reads left to right, from what changes every turn to what changes slowly:
ctx ■■■□□□□□□□ 27% 271k/1M ▁▁▃█▁▇▁ ↑3.4k | cache warm 38m | 5h 42% ↻2h34m | 7d 63% ↻2d7h | cost ≈$1.84 (+$0.12)
| Group | Meaning |
|---|---|
ctx | Context used: bar, percentage, tokens. ~ marks the pre-response estimate. Reads agent while a subagent's transcript is on screen |
Bars and ↑ | What each of the last seven turns added; ↑ is the latest turn |
cache | warm and its minutes, warming in color as the lifetime drains, or cold; the lifetime follows what the session shows, else the account's plan; rewrote and its tokens on a turn that wrote the cache again instead of reading it |
5h, 7d | Quota used in each window, and ↻ the time until it resets. Dim when remembered from an earlier session. 7d follows the main model's own weekly window when Claude Code reports one, such as 7d fable (not verified) |
cost | Gold session USD total and secondary latest-turn increment; native API-price reference, hidden when absent |
agent + spinners | One lime spinner per running agent, up to three plus +N for the rest. Four-row dots rotate clockwise in sync on both surfaces; zero is hidden |
spend | A Claude gateway's spend limit, when reported; it can pass 100% (not verified) |
Colors follow one ten-step scale from cool to warm. Percentages (context and quota) move one step per 10% from sky blue at 0–29% to red at 90% and above; each growth bar takes a step by its share of the window, doubling from 0.1%. The full table is in docs/design.md. On a narrow window the band shrinks from right to left, keeping context and its per-turn growth chart longer than the groups to their right.
Type /ccoverhead for the pane. It only displays and adds nothing to the conversation:
Four signals, one quiet band. A shared cool-to-warm scale makes context pressure, heavy turns and quota use readable at a glance. On narrow windows, secondary details yield first so context stays visible.
The diagrams below illustrate layout, color thresholds and state rules using fictional figures. See the design specification for the rules and how to regenerate them.
ccOverhead is a plugin of function hooks. It draws the AbovePrompt site and, on /ccoverhead, a Pane;
it reads the context and rate limits that Claude Code reports after each turn (session.measure,
$.session.usage, with /context's local count for the threshold and the breakdown, which sends no
request), and watches each request's token usage (turn.step). Cost is native; turn increments and pane-only forecasts are calculated from those readings; nothing is computed from your files or sent anywhere. The Claude Code facts it relies on, and
the version each was checked on, are in docs/claude-code-integration.md.
ccOverhead makes no network requests and no model requests, and reads no files or conversation text. It keeps the session's figures in memory and stores only the last quota reading in Claude Code's plugin store, so a new session can show it until its own arrives. Details: SECURITY.md.
