Before you start
- Account: You need a BetterOff household owner account and a client listed below. To ask about your finances, first connect a supported financial account or wallet in BetterOff.
- Plan: You need BetterOff Core to call any tool, read or write, over MCP or REST. The Free plan and trials do not include tool access.
- Consent: Every household member must turn on Chat data access in BetterOff settings, and you must accept the applicable BetterOff Terms. Your connected client receives the data that each tool returns.
- Approval: The connector prepares corrections for your review. If you grant the transfer scopes, it can also request wallet transfers, bank transfers between your own linked accounts, and vault deposits. You review each request in BetterOff. Wallet transfers and vault deposits require your wallet signature; bank transfers require passkey confirmation. The connector cannot apply a correction or approve or execute a request.

Other clients
- MCP clients with OAuth: Add
https://api.betteroff.finance/mcp as a remote server with Streamable HTTP transport and OAuth sign-in.
- Clients without OAuth: In BetterOff, open Settings > API tokens and create a token. Then call the same tools over REST at
POST https://api.betteroff.finance/v1/tools/{name}. See the developer documentation and the tool OpenAPI document.
Check the connection
After you sign in, ask: “Show my household overview and flag missing or out-of-date data.” The answer should name your household and include dates or missing-data warnings.
Install the connector
Each guide starts with what has been tested for that client. Codex, Claude Code, and Hermes Agent passed sign-in and read tests with synthetic data on October 6, 2026. The other guides follow each vendor's documentation and have not completed a BetterOff sign-in test.
Workflows and tools
Use the workflow picker for household reviews, subscriptions, categories, debt, investments, setup, and financial checkups. The tool reference lists every tool with its access and scopes; tools.json is the machine-readable copy. Read the connector reference for approval boundaries, troubleshooting, and disconnection.
What BetterOff records
This repository contains no telemetry code. The connector sends nothing from your computer except your requests to BetterOff. When your client calls a tool, BetterOff's servers log the tool name, whether it succeeded, the error code if it failed, how long it took, how many records it returned, the client's name and version, and hashed household and connection identifiers. The logs do not contain your prompts, the tool arguments or results, or your financial data. Selected logs are archived for 30 days. The BetterOff Privacy Policy has the full list and retention periods. You can disconnect at any time in BetterOff under Settings > Agent connections.
Directory listings
BetterOff is published in the official MCP Registry as finance.betteroff/mcp and on Smithery. OpenAI approved BetterOff for the ChatGPT directory on October 22, 2026; it is not published there yet. It is not listed in the Claude connector directory, Glama, or PulseMCP. A Zapier integration is in private preview. The directory guide tracks each submission.

AI agents can return inaccurate results and can be influenced by text they read, including merchant names and other third-party data. Review each request before you approve it in BetterOff. Your use of BetterOff is governed by the BetterOff Terms of Service.

This repository is available under the MIT License. The license does not cover the BetterOff name, logo, or artwork, which are trademarks of FinSync LLC, or the hosted BetterOff service. See Terms of Service, Section 10: Intellectual Property.
