Pocket Six

A free six-operator FM synth that runs in your browser, on a phone or a computer. It's inspired by the M-VAVE FM-1 pocket synth and the Yamaha DX7 it follows.

• FM engine: six operators, all 32 DX7 algorithms with feedback, four-rate/four-level envelopes, a pitch envelope, keyboard scaling, velocity, a 6-wave LFO and an optional amp ADSR.
• DX7 library: 607 banks (10,494 distinct sounds) built in and searchable, including Yamaha's original factory ROMs. Your own .syx banks load too.
• Phones: multi-touch keys you can slide across, bend and mod strips, and a keybed that stays at the bottom of the screen while you edit.
• Laptop keys and MIDI: the Z and Q rows play notes. A USB MIDI keyboard works in Chrome or Edge.
• Extras: a 16-step sequencer (notes or chords per step, 16 saved patterns, transpose from the keyboard), an arpeggiator and a six-effect chain (filter, distortion, phaser, chorus, delay, reverb).
• 18 original sounds: keys, bass, brass and leads, bells and mallets, pads and textures.

Everything is in index.html, with the audio engine also in ps-dsp.js. There's nothing to install.

DX7 library credits

dx7-library.json holds DX7 voice banks from the archives on Dave Benson's DX7 page, which describes them as public domain patches for the DX7:

• Yamaha DX7 factory ROMs (ROM1A–ROM4B), Yamaha's original voices.
• Dave Benson's collection.
• Jack Deckard's archive.
• The ZiCWeb collection, prepared by Jean-Philippe Civade.

They're shared here as those archives share them. The factory voices belong to Yamaha, and each bank belongs to whoever programmed it. If you made or own a bank and want it removed, open an issue and it will be taken out. tools/build-library.js in the source folder rebuilds the file: it validates each bank and drops exact duplicates.
