Getting Started

Prerequisites

• Node.js 18+ and npm
• PostgreSQL database
• OpenAI API key

Installation

1. Clone the repository and install dependencies:

npm install

2. Set up environment variables: Create a .env.local file with:

3. Set up the database:

npx prisma generate
npx prisma db push

4. Run the development server:

npm run dev

Visit http://localhost:3000 to see the app.

iOS App API (Secure Server-Side)

All iOS app endpoints use Bearer token authentication and handle recipe generation server-side to keep your API key secure.

• POST /api/app/auth - iOS app authentication
• POST /api/app/recipes/generate - Generate recipe (returns cached popular recipes when possible)
• POST /api/app/meal-plans/generate - Generate meal plan with budget optimization
• POST /api/app/grocery-list/generate - Generate grocery list
• GET /api/app/sync - Sync user data with iOS app

iOS App Integration

The iOS app should:

1. Authenticate: Call /api/app/auth with email/password to get JWT token
2. Include Token: Add Authorization: Bearer <token> header to all subsequent requests
3. Call Server-Side APIs: Use the /api/app/* endpoints for all recipe generation operations
4. Sync Data: Periodically call /api/app/sync to sync recipes, meal plans, and grocery lists

Database Schema

The application uses the following main models:

• SupermarketDiscount: Weekly supermarket discount data (Pro tier)
• SavedRecipe: User's saved recipes

Security Features

• Server-Side Processing: All recipe generation happens on the server, protecting your API keys

Deployment

Remember to:

2. Set up PostgreSQL database
3. Run Prisma migrations
4. Update NEXTAUTH_URL to your production domain

Pro Tier Supermarket Discounts

The supermarket discount scraper (lib/supermarket-scraper.ts) currently uses sample data. To implement real discount scraping:

1. Partner with supermarket chains for API access (recommended)
2. Implement web scrapers for specific stores (check their terms of service)
3. Use third-party grocery deal APIs
