Locals supporting locals. SocialUs is a map-based place where the people of a town find and support each other: buy, sell, trade, teach, gather, hire, and give, with the money and the help staying with the people who live there. Businesses are one kind of local among many, not the point of the app.

It works the same when you travel. Visiting somewhere, you can find lodging, food and services owned by the people who live there, over chains and outside owners, so what you spend stays in the place you are visiting.

Prerequisites

• Node.js 20+
• npm 10+
• A Supabase project (free tier works)
• A Mapbox account (free tier: 50k map loads/mo)

Setup

npm install
cp .env.local.example .env.local

Edit .env.local with your credentials:

Supabase Setup

1. Create a project at supabase.com/dashboard
2. Copy the project URL and publishable key from Settings > API
3. Run the database migrations (see INFRASTRUCTURE.md for schema details)

Mapbox Setup

1. Create an account at mapbox.com
2. Copy your default public token from your account page

Development Server

npm run dev

Opens at http://localhost:3000. Hot-reloads on save.

Build
