Share laughs from around the world. Built with Next.js 14, Supabase, and Tailwind CSS. Deploys to Vercel. Domain: laughlibrary.org.

Setup

1. Clone & install

git clone <your-repo>
cd laugh-library-v2
npm install

2. Supabase setup

1. Create a project at supabase.com
2. Run the migration in SQL Editor:
   • Copy & paste supabase/migrations/001_initial.sql and run it
3. Create a Storage bucket named laughs with Public access:
   • Go to Storage → New bucket → name: laughs → toggle Public ON

3. Environment variables

cp .env.example .env.local

Fill in your Supabase URL and anon key from the Supabase dashboard → Settings → API.

4. Run locally

npm run dev

Open http://localhost:3000.

Deploy to Vercel

1. Push your code to GitHub
2. Import the repo at vercel.com/new
3. Add the two env vars in Vercel's Project Settings → Environment Variables
4. Deploy

Connect laughlibrary.org

1. In Vercel: Project → Settings → Domains → Add laughlibrary.org and www.laughlibrary.org
2. Vercel will show you DNS records to add at your domain registrar
3. Add the records and wait for DNS propagation (~15 min)

Site owner (admin) setup

Only the site owner can remove public laughs. Visitors can delete their own laughs only while they're private.

1. Run supabase/migrations/002_ownership_and_admin.sql in the Supabase SQL Editor. It lists [email protected] as the owner.
2. Authentication → Users → Add user: create [email protected].
3. Authentication → Sign In / Providers: turn off "Allow new users to sign up", so nobody else can create an account.
4. Authentication → URL Configuration: set Site URL to https://laughlibrary.org and add these Redirect URLs:
   • http://localhost:3000/admin
   • https://laughlibrary.org/admin
   • https://www.laughlibrary.org/admin
5. Visit /admin, enter the owner email, and open the emailed link. A green Owner badge appears in the header, and every laugh's ⋮ menu gets Remove from site.

Removed laughs get moderation_status = 'removed'; set it back to active in the Table Editor to restore one.

Adding auth later

The schema and RLS policies are designed to slot in Supabase Auth with minimal changes:

• The laughs table has no user_id column yet — add one as uuid references auth.users
• Update the RLS policies to use auth.uid()
• Add @supabase/ssr for server-side auth in Next.js
• Use magic links or OAuth via Supabase Auth
