Save individual songs for offline listening.
Choose an individual track and use its Download action. Available sources and controls vary by platform.
| Feature | Experience |
|---|---|
| 🔎 Search & discovery | Find tracks, artists, albums, and playlists through the music catalog. |
| ❤️ Your library | Keep favorite tracks and music collections within reach. |
| 📝 Playlist controls | Create and manage playlists, queue songs, and reorder your own playlists where supported. |
| 🔀 Queues & autoplay | Play next, shuffle, reorder listening, and keep music going with autoplay. |
| 📺 Music & video | Switch between music listening and available video playback experiences. |
| 📁 Local music | Play music stored on your device; Android also includes SMB and WebDAV music-source integrations. |
The player is as much about how music sounds as what you listen to.
These audio capabilities vary by platform, format, and connected music source. Lossless or Atmos playback is not guaranteed for every song.
Listening doesn't have to be a solo experience.
| Integration | What it brings |
|---|---|
| 👥 Listen Together | Shared rooms with synchronized playback state, queue changes, and host/listener controls when connected to a compatible server. |
| 🎮 Discord presence | Show what you're listening to with supported Discord Rich Presence integration. |
| 📊 Listening statistics | Explore listening history and insights tracked by the app. |
| 🎧 Last.fm / ListenBrainz | Scrobble listening activity through supported account integrations. |
Listen Together coordinates playback; it does not host or redistribute audio. Each participant needs access to playable music through their own source.
vyon's opt-in Internet Archive FLAC source and the separate hostable services are documented in Add-ons and services. These components stay separate from the Android app unless the documentation says they are built in.
The repository keeps platform applications, shared code, services, and the site in purpose-based top-level folders:
android/ Phone, Android TV, and Wear OS apps
core/ Shared Kotlin modules, VyonEx, assets, and Listen Together Worker
desktop/ Windows, Linux, and macOS app and packaging
services/ Discord bot, Listen Together server, library service, and add-ons
website/ Static vyon project site
gradle/ and the root Gradle files define the build; scripts/ contains repository tooling; .github/ contains CI and release workflows. Required root legal and contributor files remain alongside them.
| Platform | Experience |
|---|---|
| Windows, macOS & Linux | Desktop music player with its own interface, downloads, audio controls, and integrations. |
| Android phones & tablets | Touch-first player with downloads, music library, customizable playback, and device integrations. |
| Android TV | Living-room interface designed for a bigger screen and remote-control navigation. |
| Wear OS | Companion experience paired with the Android app. |
iOS and iPadOS are not supported. Some features and downloadable builds may be available on only certain platforms.
One Kotlin Multiplatform codebase, with a native interface for each kind of screen.
| Part | What it is | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Shared core | Kotlin Multiplatform logic and UI shared by every app: music sources, playback state, lyrics, updates | core/shared, core/ui |
| Android | Phone and tablet app, Android TV app, and Wear OS companion | android/app, android/tv, android/wearos |
| Desktop | Compose Multiplatform app packaged for Windows, macOS, and Linux | desktop/app, desktop/ui |
| Extraction | The VyonEx Kotlin Multiplatform library, included as source | core/vyonex-library |
Toolchain: JDK 27 for the Gradle daemon and Java toolchains, Gradle 9.8.2, Kotlin 2.4.21, Android Gradle Plugin 9.4.1, Compose Multiplatform 1.12.2. Android apps compile against API 37.2 and target API 37.
Dependencies: main uses stable releases only. Prereleases (alpha, beta, RC) are used only by nightly builds, on a throwaway branch that never lands on main.
Ready to listen? Every official build is published on GitHub Releases.
Android builds come in two editions. Both are free and open source, and the music features are the same:
| Device | FOSS | GMS |
|---|---|---|
| Android phone or tablet (64-bit ARM) | vyon-android-foss-arm64-<version>.apk | vyon-android-gms-arm64-<version>.apk (Cast, Wear OS pairing) |
| Android phone or tablet (32-bit ARM) | vyon-android-foss-arm32-<version>.apk | vyon-android-gms-arm32-<version>.apk |
| Android x86_64 emulator/device | vyon-android-foss-x86_64-<version>.apk | vyon-android-gms-x86_64-<version>.apk |
| Universal fallback (ARM64 + x86_64) | vyon-android-foss-<version>.apk | vyon-android-gms-<version>.apk |
| Android TV | vyon-tv-foss-<version>.apk | vyon-tv-gms-<version>.apk (Cast) |
| Wear OS | — | vyon-wearos-<version>.apk, a companion that pairs with the GMS phone app |
| Windows | vyon-<version>-windows-x64-setup.exe or vyon-<version>-windows-x64.msi | — |
| macOS | vyon-<version>-macos-arm64.dmg (Apple silicon) or -macos-x64.dmg (Intel); .pkg too | — |
| Linux | vyon-<version>-linux-amd64.deb or vyon-<version>-linux-x86_64.rpm | — |
Desktop builds never use Google services, so every Windows, macOS, and Linux build is FOSS. Wear OS has only a GMS edition: the watch app talks to your phone through Google's Wearable Data Layer, which needs Google Play services on both devices.
Want the newest fixes first? Nightly builds are vyon's beta channel.
main with the newest NewPipe Extractor and InnerTubeX releases (the YouTube parts that break most often) and the newest prerelease of every other library.nightly, named like v1.0.1-nightly.57, with the same files as a stable release.Nightly builds can be unstable. Use a stable release for everyday listening, and report problems in GitHub Issues with the nightly version number.
vyon's website only links directly to installers it can verify in published GitHub releases. If no build is published for your platform yet, check the Releases page for updates.
GitHub badges display live repository statistics. The download counter measures GitHub Release asset downloads, not active users, website visits, or installed copies. A repository without published release assets may show zero or an unavailable value.
vyon is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0. Bundled third-party components retain their respective licenses.

The reusable extraction library is maintained separately as VyonEx. vyon consumes its Kotlin Multiplatform source at 0118885cdf00a609b585f8fb5fd5110265c98c93; the earlier exported subtree revision remains in VyonEx history.
Build, architecture, installation, and release guidance is in the project documentation. See third-party notices for source-level attribution.
