deadstab v0.1.8-alpha is a minimalist top down arena shooter with distinct weapons, explosive combat and gore, playable in the browser on mobile or pc
- eight distinct weapons, each with its own E and X abilities: static, nominal, ballast, omen, sightline, sidekick, ichor (a blood-fed katana) and sheath (a broadsword)
- three maps: lumen, a deserted neon city at night where every building can be entered; deadwater outpost, a desert town with enterable buildings, destructible props and a crop field that burns, and hollow wick, a foggy autumn village with hills, a stream and a graveyard
- online multiplayer for up to 8 players, with bots: host a game, share the room code, and play from a lobby
- free-for-all, 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 and 2v2v2, or practice with targets where nothing counts
- every mode but free-for-all is played by elimination rounds, with spectating while you're down
- a red storm closes in on every mode but 1v1 (which has its duel circle) and practice
- the host picks the map and settings, with pings, kill feed and scoreboard
- matches against bots (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 and free-for-all; easy, normal or hard), solo practice and a tutorial for every weapon
- touch controls with an editable layout, keyboard and mouse with rebindable keys, and graphics presets from potato to extreme (auto picks one for your device)
what's new in v0.1.8-alpha
- quick play, gun game, a killcam, kill streaks, punchier kills, spawn protection and a match summary
- lumen: emptier, brighter streets, more things to smash, and lit doorways so you can see where to go in
- smoother arrow-key aiming, clearer dodge charges, a steadier mobile joystick, ichor's guard blocks more, and gun bots are fairer against blades
what's new in v0.1.7-alpha
- lumen: buildings fade cleanly, no peeking inside from outside, less street clutter
- the storm shows on the map in every mode and follows it live
- normal bots are less aggressive: they sometimes hold cover or hold the open instead of always chasing
what's new in v0.1.6-alpha
- a new map, lumen: a rainy, neon-lit, deserted city at night where every building can be entered
what's new in v0.1.5-alpha
- redesigned settings that work on phones
- shadows no longer flicker while you move
- server messages show as cards in the game's style
what's new in v0.1.4-alpha
- nominal does about 10% less damage (bullets, grenade and nova) and its hip fire is a little looser
what's new in v0.1.3-alpha
- a balance pass on every weapon: fights end sooner and come down to aim, dodging and timing
- bots fight like players: they back off, pick their moment, and each has its own style and range
- no respawns in the last 45 seconds of free-for-all, with the time left on the death screen
- static's hex is a little smaller and nobody can get inside it any more
- the game starts on older macs (safari before 15.4)
what's new in v0.1.2-alpha
- host a game skips the map: everyone votes on it when the round starts
- robots are called bots
what's new in v0.1.1-alpha
- online matches run on deadstab's own server: join a listed room for any map and mode, or host your own with a 5-number code
- a map vote at the start of each round
- fixed join and host leaving the game before you got in
- clearer join filters
what's new in v0.1.0-alpha
- the game is now deadstab, with new version numbers
- a red storm closes in every round, with lightning, sudden death and a slow closing zone in free-for-all
- new menus: play, join, host, bots, tutorial, practice, and rounds (3, 5, 10 or endless) in every mode
- 4v4, free-for-all against robots, forfeit, a new scoreboard and end-of-match card, and a duel circle for every 1v1
- 100 health for everyone, with every weapon scaled to match; robots aim more like people
- syphon gives 50 health a kill in free-for-all, 25 in the other modes
- hollow wick's goat can be killed, and the shadow flicker on the hills is gone
what's new in alpha v0.996
- the page keeps its plain address while you play
- extreme runs at full speed from the first second
what's new in alpha v0.995
- elimination rounds in every mode but free-for-all, with a round popup and the score between rounds
- spectate your teammates while you're down
- faster frames on every graphics preset below extreme, and much less lag online on weak connections
- sightline's rifle fires past everything but buildings
