macOS from Terminal (no Gatekeeper prompt; checks the checksums' signature, the checksum and the project certificate, and installs nothing if one fails): curl -fsSL https://mhguitarte.github.io/ygd-editor/install.sh | bash. The script is install.sh; tools/test-install.sh tests it against a local server, and tools/build.py refuses to build when its pinned fingerprint or embedded certificate is not release-signing.pem.
This repository holds the installers, the update manifests the app reads, and the download site: the
download page, the user guide and the list of every version, in the seven languages of the app —
English, Español, Italiano, Polski, Français, Deutsch, Türkçe. English is at the root, the others under
<code>/; the first visit follows the browser's language and the menu remembers a choice. The source
code is developed in a private repository; questions and bug reports are welcome in
Issues.
The site is generated: the structure is tools/build.py, the strings are one file per language in
tools/strings/ (en.py is the reference; a language whose file is missing is simply not built).
Edit, run python3 tools/build.py and commit the output. Screenshots are in assets/img/. The
versions page and the download button read the releases through the GitHub API in the browser, so a
new release needs no rebuild.
settings.schema.json is the JSON Schema of the app's settings.json, whose $schema points at
https://mhguitarte.github.io/ygd-editor/settings.schema.json. It is a copy of docs/settings.schema.json
in the code repository, not generated here: copy it again when a release changes the settings.
Two independent checks, neither of which needs you to trust a name:
SHA256SUMS.txt and its signature,
SHA256SUMS.txt.sig, made with the project's key, the one behind
release-signing.pem. Check the certificate's fingerprint (2.) first: that
is the step that proves the rest, since whoever could replace an installer could replace a
certificate next to it. Only openssl is needed (on Windows, Git Bash has one):
curl -fsSLO https://mhguitarte.github.io/ygd-editor/release-signing.pem
openssl x509 -in release-signing.pem -noout -fingerprint -sha256 # 46:C5:62:…:74:C3:AB, see 2.
openssl x509 -in release-signing.pem -pubkey -noout > release-signing.pub
openssl dgst -sha256 -verify release-signing.pub -signature SHA256SUMS.txt.sig SHA256SUMS.txt # Verified OK
sha256sum --check --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS.txt # shasum -a 256 -c --ignore-missing on macOS
Older releases: v0.6.0 – v0.17.1 carry an unsigned SHA256SUMS.txt, and the code signature (2.) is
what vouches for them. v0.1.0 – v0.4.0 were built by the project's release workflow and carry its
Sigstore signature instead, SHA256SUMS.txt.sigstore.json:
cosign verify-blob --bundle SHA256SUMS.txt.sigstore.json \
--certificate-identity-regexp '^https://github.com/MHGuitarte/ygd-editor(-app)?/\.github/workflows/release\.yml@refs/tags/v' \
--certificate-oidc-issuer https://token.actions.githubusercontent.com SHA256SUMS.txt
sha256sum --check --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS.txt # shasum -a 256 -c --ignore-missing on macOS

(public key: release-signing.pem). A build signed with any other
certificate is not ours, whatever name it shows.
codesign --verify --deep --strict /Applications/ygd-editor.app && codesign -dvv /Applications/ygd-editor.app 2>&1 | grep Authority(Get-AuthenticodeSignature .\ygd-editor-*-setup.exe).SignerCertificate.Thumbprint → 79A40643BDFE500AB6730154B03B336C1809C57CThe certificate is not issued by Apple or Microsoft, so the first launch shows their usual prompt for software from an unidentified developer; the download page explains how to get past it.
The app checks this repository shortly after launch and downloads new versions in the background; Settings › Notifications offers "Restart to update", a manual check, and automatic installation.
