Administrator role changes, administrator-driven account deletion, and self-service account deletion use MongoDB transactions to preserve the last-administrator invariant. Production must therefore use MongoDB Atlas or another replica set/sharded deployment with transactions enabled. A standalone mongod is not sufficient.
For local development, a single-node replica set is enough. One example is:
mongod --dbpath C:\data\course-planner --replSet rs0 --bind_ip localhost
mongosh --eval "rs.initiate({_id:'rs0',members:[{_id:0,host:'localhost:27017'}]})"
Then configure:
MONGODB_URI=mongodb://localhost:27017/course-planner?replicaSet=rs0
If the deployment does not support transactions, the protected role/account-deletion endpoints return HTTP 503 instead of reporting an undifferentiated server error. This repository has not verified a live Atlas topology; confirm transaction support in the target environment before release.
Production credential login also requires Vercel's trusted x-vercel-forwarded-for header. Missing or invalid production source data fails closed; generic forwarded headers are development-only fallbacks.
