Lupi is Italian for "wolves": a pack. You control it all with the lupi command, and its two
security levels are sheep (calm, the everyday default) and wolf (maximum caution: alert,
on the hunt).
lupi lab), not on your host system.lupi net switches between them.lupi setup gaming installs Steam, Heroic, Lutris and ProtonUp-Qt. lupi game on opens Remote Play ports, fixes stutter in some games and pauses updates while you play. lupi level sheep|wolf changes a whole bundle of protections at once.lupi (with tab completion). lupi install discord or lupi install htop picks the right way to install anything, and lupi update updates it all.LupiOS ships defaults, not locks: change anything in System Settings and your choice wins.
fastfetch; lupi fastfetch off hides it), and an icy starship prompt (lupi prompt off turns it off)The artwork is generated by art/generate.mjs, from the logo's outlines in
art/logo/. After changing either, run node art/generate.mjs and open art/preview.html
to check the result.
Both are the same LupiOS. The only difference is the graphics driver.
| Image | For |
|---|---|
ghcr.io/vukkz/lupios | AMD or Intel graphics, NVIDIA cards older than the GTX 16 series (GTX 10xx and before), and virtual machines |
ghcr.io/vukkz/lupios-nvidia | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 16xx, RTX 20xx and newer: its driver is NVIDIA's open kernel module, which doesn't support older cards. If Secure Boot is on, run ujust enroll-secure-boot-key after installing and reboot, or the NVIDIA driver isn't allowed to load |
In the commands below, use lupios-nvidia instead of lupios if you have NVIDIA.
New install from a USB stick: follow docs/install.md. The installer ISOs are
built by the build-iso workflow (Actions tab → build-iso → Run workflow).
Already running Fedora Atomic (Silverblue, Kinoite and similar)? Switch it to LupiOS:
rpm-ostree rebase ostree-unverified-registry:ghcr.io/vukkz/lupios:latest
systemctl reboot
rpm-ostree rebase ostree-image-signed:docker://ghcr.io/vukkz/lupios:latest
systemctl reboot
The latest tag will automatically point to the latest build. That build will still always use the Fedora version specified in recipe.yml, so you won't get accidentally updated to the next major version.
lupi check # see what's protected (restart once after the "Kernel hardening added" message)
lupi lab # enter the Lupi Lab (first time downloads a few GB)
lupi lab strict # the Lab without access to your files (terminal tools only)
lupi setup gaming # optional: Steam, Heroic, Lutris, ProtonUp-Qt, MangoHud, gamescope
On first login, LupiOS Welcome walks you through the setup (open it again from the app menu: Welcome Center). Day to day, the wolf icon next to the clock or the lupi command does the rest:
lupi install discord # apps come from Flathub, command-line tools from Arch Linux
lupi update # system, apps and boxes; reboot afterwards if it says so
lupi net public # on a network you don't trust (new Wi-Fi networks start as public)
lupi game on # before playing; lupi game off afterwards
lupi level wolf # maximum caution; sheep is the everyday default
lupi outgoing on # apps ask before they connect to the internet (on in wolf)
Run lupi help to see every command.
| Channel | Image tag | Built from | For |
|---|---|---|---|
| stable | latest | the main branch, plus a daily rebuild for Fedora security updates | everyone |
| testing | testing | the testing branch, plus a daily rebuild; the tag only moves once the boot test passed | trying new changes in a VM first |
Switch with lupi channel stable or lupi channel testing, then reboot.
How changes ship:
testing branch. After each image build, GitHub boots both new images (AMD/Intel and NVIDIA) in a
virtual machine and checks them from inside (the Boot test: tests/boot/): each has to start,
be LupiOS, and keep every promise in SECURITY.md. It checks each kernel setting, blocked
module and firewall rule, and switches the security level, network trust and Game Mode the way the panel
widget does. It also checks that only a Lab image signed by LupiOS is accepted.lupi update, reboot, test.git push origin testing:main. Stable machines get
it with their next update. These images are signed with Sigstore's cosign. You can verify the signature by downloading the cosign.pub file from this repo and running the following command:
cosign verify --key cosign.pub ghcr.io/vukkz/lupios
