In most K–12 classrooms, one teacher is responsible for 25 to 35 students who arrive with very different levels of preparation. A single lesson moves too fast for some students and too slowly for others. Adaptive learning can help address that gap, but many high-quality adaptive tools are proprietary, expensive, and out of reach for under-resourced schools.
Laura Learning is built to change that. It is free and open source, so schools, districts, teachers, researchers, and developers can use, study, adapt, and improve it without licensing costs.
Adaptive content: Selects lessons, examples, and practice problems based on each student's current mastery.
Personalized pacing: Lets students move ahead when they are ready and provides additional support when needed.
Responsive assessment: Adjusts question difficulty based on student performance to better measure what a student understands.
Teacher insight: Gives teachers a clear view of individual student and class progress to support targeted instruction.
The core platform is and will remain free under the Apache 2.0 license, so cost is not a barrier for public schools, Title I schools, under-resourced schools, or schools in developing regions.
Educators and families should be able to understand how the platform makes decisions about a student's learning path.
Teachers, researchers, instructional designers, and developers can contribute content, models, research, documentation, and features that benefit the broader educational community.
The platform is shaped by authentic K–12 classroom needs and teaching experience.
Setup instructions will be added as the first release becomes available.
