Cutlass
Cut sharper. Own everything.
The video editor you don't have to learn. Drop in a long video and AI finds your best moments — captioned, vertical, ready to post — or edit by deleting words, and the video cuts itself. Everything OpusClip does, in an editor you own outright. Your video never leaves your machine.

What it does
🤖 Find your best moments — automatically
- ✨ Find the best moments. Drop in a long recording and Cutlass reads the whole thing, then pulls out the funniest, most exciting, and most pivotal moments — and turns each one into a captioned vertical clip, ready to post. Real comprehension, not keyword-guessing.
- Fast, or private. Fast transcribes on cloud GPUs in seconds — even for hour-long videos. Private transcribes entirely on your own machine, always unlimited and free. Your video stays put either way; only finding the best moments sends the transcript — and with no connection, not even that: Private does the whole job on your machine.
- Captions, your call. One toggle burns captions onto every clip, timed to the speech — off by default, never applied automatically.
📲 Make clips for social
- Vertical, square, or wide. Reframe any footage to 9:16, 1:1, or 16:9. Fill crops edge-to-edge with no black bars, or drop in a blurred background. Pan to keep your subject centered.
- Captions from your words. Click a word to jump there; delete words and the video cuts with them.
- Fast, native export. Hardware-accelerated H.264, plus ProRes and WebM.
✂️ Edit fast
- Edit by talking. Delete a sentence in the transcript and the video cuts with it — frame-accurate, rippled shut, undoable.
- Kill the ums in one click. Filler words and dead-air silences are found automatically. Two clicks and they're gone.
- Remove background music. Strip copyrighted music off a clip while keeping your voice — on-device AI vocal separation, one click. Perfect for gameplay, streams, and screen recordings.
- Made for screen recordings. OBS and other variable-frame-rate captures are conformed on import, so cuts and audio stay perfectly in sync — no more drift.
- Blur out anything. Cover a face, screen, or name with blur, pixelate, or a solid box — and motion tracking makes it follow the subject as they move.
- A timeline that obeys. In Studio, drag a box to select a bunch of clips, move or delete them together, right-click for quick actions, and Ctrl+A to grab everything.
🎨 Grade & finish
- Grade in one click. One-click Looks (Cinematic, Warm, Noir, and more) preview live on your footage. Drop in a
.cube LUT, pull green screen, punch in, or dial color by hand — grade several clips at once.
- Make it sound finished. One switch on export levels the volume, ducks music under your voice, and matches the loudness every platform expects. The difference between a video that sounds homemade and one that doesn't.
- Fix out-of-sync audio. Slip a clip's audio earlier or later to line it up with the picture when a recording came in a touch off.
- Transitions, titles and lower-thirds, keyframe any effect, and speed/retime in Studio mode.
- Exports that finish. Hour-long timelines with hundreds of cuts render without stalling, and the dialog shows elapsed time and an estimate so you can tell a slow render from a stuck one.
- Work you can't lose. Auto-save writes atomically and keeps a backup beside every project, so a crash or an unplugged drive mid-save can't take your edit with it.
Two independent editors, one app
Create is the clip maker: footage in, captioned vertical clip out. Studio is a full multi-track editor with effects, titles, and keyframes. They're independent workspaces — experiment in Create without touching your Studio edit, and vice-versa.
Buy it once. Own it forever.
Every other editor wants a recurring piece of you — a monthly rental, a watermark, or a license to your work. OpusClip and Premiere are subscriptions, forever. Cutlass is $49, one time — and it's yours to keep.
- Pay once — $49, and it's yours. No subscription, ever. Buy it and own it, right on your machine. Every update to the version you own is free. If a big new version ever arrives, it'll be an optional paid upgrade at a discount for people who already own Cutlass — and the copy you bought keeps working exactly as it does today. Saying so now rather than the day it happens.
- AI included. Finding moments and cloud transcription come with the app — generous fair use for everyday editing, and on-device transcription is always unlimited.
- Your video never leaves your machine. The AI features send only your audio or transcript to process, then discard it — never your footage. Private mode keeps transcription on your machine too, so the only thing that ever leaves is the transcript, and only when you ask for AI moments.
- Your content is yours. Cutlass claims no license, ever, to anything you make.
- No account. No watermark. No lock-in. Your project file is open and documented. The 7-day trial checks a license on first launch (an anonymous machine ID only — never your footage); after that, a one-time purchase keeps you editing.
Install
- Download Cutlass_0.2.0_x64-setup.exe from the latest release.
- Run it. Cutlass is code-signed, so Windows shows the publisher as Isaiah Aniemeka — you can check under Properties → Digital Signatures. SmartScreen may still warn on a new release while its reputation builds; if it does, click More info → Run anyway.
- Launch Cutlass from the Start menu. On first run you'll start your 7-day free trial (needs internet once to begin).
First 90 seconds
- Open the Create tab and pick a shape — Shorts / TikTok / Reels (9:16), Square, or Wide.
- + Import a long clip with some talking in it. Choose Fill (full-bleed) or Blur bg, and pan to frame your subject.
- Click ✨ Find the best moments. Cutlass transcribes the clip, then the AI pulls out the standout moments — pick one to load it.
- (Optional) flip Captions on. Export your clip. Done.
Prefer to trim by transcript? Switch to Studio, click a word to jump there, and delete a sentence to cut it — then remove filler words and silences in one click each.
Good to know (beta)
- Windows 10/11, 64-bit. macOS and Linux are on the roadmap.
- Fast transcription uses the cloud; Private stays on-device. Fast sends only your audio (never your video) to transcribe, then discards it. Switch to Private and transcription runs on your own machine instead. Find the best moments sends the transcript when it can reach the internet; with no connection it falls back to a finder that runs on your machine, so Private works start to finish offline — the offline picks are rougher, and the app says so. Your licence keeps working offline for 30 days after its last check (3 during the trial).
- Export at your source resolution. Exporting 1080p footage at 4K just makes it softer and bigger — the app defaults to your footage's resolution and warns if you go higher.
- H.264 works on every machine. ProRes (master) and WebM are also available. (H.265 is hidden for now — it depends on specific GPU support.)
- Moving to a new PC? Enter your purchase code on the new machine and your licence moves with it. Renaming your PC doesn't affect it at all.
- This is an early beta. Expect rough edges, and please tell us about them.
Tell us what breaks
- In the app: Help → Send beta feedback (opens your email with version + system info prefilled).
- The single most useful thing you can send: a short clip of your honest first five minutes — where it clicked, where it didn't.
