Flat-file CMS for Deno and Fresh
Taken from the repository README

Read the full README ↗The flat-file CMS for Deno and Fresh. Grows from Markdown content to full-stack web apps with Preact themes and Fresh islands. Start without a database. Ship as a single Deno module — no build pipeline required.
Pre-1.0 — In active use in production. API evolves with each minor release; breaking changes are noted in the changelog.
Start with a folder of Markdown files — no database, no build pipeline, no configuration ceremony. Add a Preact theme with Fresh islands when you need interactivity. Reach for auth, a database schema, background jobs, or payments when your project grows into a web application. Dune is the same framework at every step; you never outgrow it and never migrate away from it.

deno run -A jsr:@dune/core/cli new my-site
# Start dev server
cd my-site
deno task dev
deno install --global -n dune -A jsr:@dune/core/cli
Make sure Deno's bin directory is in your PATH (usually ~/.deno/bin).
To uninstall: deno uninstall dune
For local development (working on the framework itself):
deno install --global -n dune -A --config=deno.json src/cli.ts
This snapshots deno.json at install time rather than reading it live, so it goes stale whenever deno.json's imports change afterward. Run dune dev:link (from inside the checkout) to relink and refresh it instead of retyping the command above.
| Command | Description |
|---|---|
dune new [dir] | Scaffold a new site with starter theme |
dune new [dir] --verify | Same, but also boot the site for real and check it serves a request |
dune dev | Dev server with hot-reload (watches content + themes) |
dune dev:link | Reinstall the global shim against this checkout (local dev on Dune itself) |
dune ps | List dune dev/serve instances running on this machine |
dune stop | Stop instances: <pid>, --port <n>, --idle (only the hung/leftover ones) or --all (asks first; --force SIGKILLs what ignores SIGTERM) |
dune doctor | Environment/runtime health checks — Deno version, dependency resolution, lockfile staleness |
dune doctor --boot | Also boot the site for real and check it serves a request |
dune build | Build content index, validate config |
dune build --static | Static site generation |
dune serve | Production server |
dune migrate:from-grav <src> | Import a Grav site |
dune migrate:from-wordpress <src> | Import a WordPress WXR export |
dune migrate:from-hugo <src> | Import a Hugo site |
dune migrate:from-markdown <src> | Import a flat markdown folder |
dune cache:clear | Clear all caches |
dune cache:rebuild | Rebuild content index from scratch |
dune config:show | Display merged config with source annotations |
dune config:validate | Validate all config files |
dune content:list | List all pages with routes and templates |
dune content:check | Check content for broken links, missing templates |

# Run tests
deno test -A tests/
# Type-check
deno check src/**/*.ts
# Start docs site dev server
deno run -A src/cli.ts dev --root docs
# Build & validate docs site
deno run -A src/cli.ts build --root docs
The docs/ directory is a real Dune site — structured using Dune's own folder conventions, frontmatter, and taxonomy system. It imports directly from ../src, making it a live dogfood example of the framework.
Serve the docs locally:
deno run -A src/cli.ts dev --root docs
