[!IMPORTANT] This integration only works for locations within Germany and areas immediately adjacent to the German border. The DWD radar composites do not cover other countries.
All entities belong to one DWD Precipitation device per configured location (rain warnings are a device each):
The entity overview lists every entity with its id, unit and update interval.
[!NOTE] Upgrading from a version before 2026.11.0? Several entities were renamed, and existing installs keep their old entity ids. See Upgrading.
Home Assistant 2026.11 and newer: DWD Precipitation is in the built-in Marketplace. Go to Settings > Marketplace, search for DWD Precipitation and select Install, or use this button:
Installed with HACS before? Nothing to do: the Marketplace takes it over when Home Assistant 2026.11 first starts.
Home Assistant 2026.10 and older: install it with HACS, then restart Home Assistant:
Then add DWD Precipitation to Home Assistant with this button:
Enter a name and pick the location; the configuration guide explains every option. Manual installation, updates and removal are described in the installation guide.
All values are based on data from the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD), from its Open Data server:
Source: Deutscher Wetterdienst, under CC BY 4.0 (DWD legal notice). The integration processes the data: it reads the radar grid cell holding your location and derives totals, peaks, start and end times and rain events from it. Every entity names the source in its attribution attribute: "Based on data from Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD)".
This project is not made, endorsed or supported by the DWD. Its rain warnings are rules you set on DWD's radar forecast, not official DWD weather warnings; those are issued by the DWD itself at dwd.de.

It owes a lot to the contributors of the wradlib package: early versions embedded parts of it, and the test suite still checks every parser and grid lookup against it.
