You must attempt to guess which word is the correct one. When giving your guess, you're told how many characters of your guess are the correct character in the correct position. Spaces before or after a guess are ignored. A guess that isn't four characters long costs one guess, and you have five guesses in total. Guesses are not case-sensitive, so dice and DICE are treated the same.
Usage
Run the game from the repository root with Python 3. The list of possible words is shown before every guess, but a guess doesn't have to be one of them: any four characters are scored the same way. python3 src/guessMyWord.py
Ending input (Ctrl-D, or the end of piped input) or pressing Ctrl-C ends the game early and reveals the word.
The same game, unmodified, runs in a browser tab under tak's console runtime (Python via Pyodide): https://guess-my-word.play.danielstephenson.dev, listed with the rest at danielstephenson.dev/play. To build and serve it locally (needs tak installed):
python3 web/build_zip.py
python3 -c "from tak.web.serve import main; main(root='.', title='Guess My Word')"
Pushes to master deploy it to arcade (.github/workflows/browser.yml).
The test suite uses the standard library's unittest module and is run from the repository root.
python3 -m unittest discover -s tests -t .
