Coming to Google Play.
On Linux, add a Gmail account with Sign in with Google. Google shows "Google hasn't verified this app" once: IzoMailer is a small independent app that hasn't been through Google's (paid, yearly) verification. Choose Advanced → Go to IzoMailer to continue. Google allows unverified apps a limited number of users; if sign-in is refused, use an app password instead (pick Gmail in the sign-in dialog).
IzoMailer can turn any email into a task, with a link back to the email, and show your tasks by status next to your mail. It stays out of the way until you connect it.
Tasks live at tasks.koli-bg.com, a small service by the same person who makes IzoMailer, and it's free to use: sign in there, create an API token, and paste it into IzoMailer under ⋯ → Tasks settings…. Workspaces can be shared with a few people (a free workspace holds up to 10 open tasks and 3 members).
