ohio-eats

Three things built from one pipeline (ported from ../mi-eats/, with pieces from ../co-eats/; those folders are never modified):

1. The web leaderboard: Ohio restaurants ranked on several boards, published as a private claude.ai Artifact from site/. It uses the UCSD Google Local 2021 snapshot for ratings, labeled "2021" everywhere, so site/ and its generator never go in a public repo.
2. Ohio Eats: Restaurants, a free iPhone and iPad app (OhioEats/, XcodeGen project.yml). No Google-derived data: places come from Overture Maps open data and the Cincinnati and Columbus health departments' lists; ratings and hours come live from Apple Maps' own place card.
3. The website in docs/ (generated by scripts/make-site.py): landing page, the hand-checked guides (Cincinnati chili, Ohio pizza styles, Amish Country), the James Beard honorees, city pages, what Cincinnati's and Columbus's inspection records mean, the web app at /explore/, privacy and terms. QA with scripts/qa-site.py.

Official records

• Cincinnati Health Department, Cincinnati Food Safety Program (data.cincinnati-oh.gov, public domain): live food licenses and each visit's own result since the City's 2024 records system ("Approved - No Violations", "Approved - Minor Violations", "Approved - Violations Abated", "Not In Compliance"), shown word for word with the violations cited. No grade is computed.
• Columbus Public Health, Restaurant & Market Health Inspections (CC0): every food permit and the City's own status ("Standards Met", "Under Enforcement", "Closed for Violation"). No dates or counts are published in bulk.
• Ohio has no statewide list of food licenses and no statewide inspection data; elsewhere, health districts publish one search at a time.
• James Beard Foundation honors and America's Classics, as facts. Ohio has no MICHELIN Guide.

Hand-checked research

pipeline/build_research.py writes data/research/ (private): Cincinnati chili, goetta, pierogi and Cleveland plates, Ohio pizza styles, Barberton chicken, Toledo's Hungarian hot dogs, Lake Erie perch and walleye, Amish Country and the oldest places, each with a page naming the place for the food and 2025–26 evidence that it's open.
