Read stories at your level, drill grammar, collect words and practise them, keep notes, and get help from an AI tutor when you want it. It runs on your own server, on the web and as an Android app that works offline.
The server is one Docker image:
curl -O https://raw.githubusercontent.com/YamenSharaf/wortschritt/main/docker-compose.prod.yml
# create a .env with ADMIN_USERNAME, APP_PASSWORD, SESSION_SECRET and ENCRYPTION_KEY
docker compose -f docker-compose.prod.yml up -d
Then open http://your-host:3000 and sign in. Updates, backups, voices and
all the settings: docs/self-hosting.md.
Android app: download the APK from wortschritt.yamen.dev and install it (or use Obtainium with Include prereleases). Enter your server's address and sign in. Details: docs/self-hosting.md#android-app.
Wortschritt is built by one person with a lot of help from an AI coding
assistant (Claude, through Claude Code): most of the code was written by
it under the maintainer's direction, and commits say so with a
Co-Authored-By trailer. Some of the built-in content and the stories are
AI-written too. In the app, the AI tutor, AI translations, generated
stories and "Generate more" questions come from an AI model you configure;
the app says so and they can be wrong.
